Ever since Chael Sonnen controlled legendary Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champ Anderson Silva for the vast majority of their four and a half round bout at UFC 117, fans have been demanding a rematch between the two MMA fighters.
Leading up to the UFC 117 fight between the two, few expected much from the trash-talking Sonnen. Even though Sonnen was coming off surprising wins over Yushin Okami and Nate Marquardt, many didn't consider him a top level fighter going into UFC 117.
Sonnen shocked the MMA world from the opening moments of his UFC 117 encounter against Silva, taking the fight to him like no one had ever done before. For the first and only time in Silva's UFC career, it actually looked like the champion was going to lose.
Sonnen's ignorance of BJJ eventually bit him in the rear, when Silva secured a triangle choke/armbar combination with less than two minutes left in the MMA fight.
Chael earned a lot of new fans with his performance at UFC 117, but he lost many just as quickly when reports indicated the Portland native tested positive for PED's in his post-fight drug test.
I personally attribute some of Sonnen's success to his elevated testosterone levels at UFC 117, but it's also obvious that his skills match up well with Silva.
