Of all the things Hollywood loves to remake, horror movies top the list. Audiences have seen countless reincarnations of their favorite, or not-so-favorite, spooky characters, from nightmare-haunting Freddy Krueger to the next-generation super-gory version of Michael Myers.
According to Cinema Blend, Hollywood is continuing the evil-things-never-truly-die trend and has their eye on yet another scary movie revamp. This time, it's Japanese chiller Ju-On a.k.a. The Grudge.
Although most news is purely speculation and mostly rumored at this point, Cinema Blend says they've heard buzz that critically acclaimed director Sam Raimi's Ghost House productions may team up with Mandate to bring the ghoulish curse back to the big screen.
The Grudge has a twisty international past, starting with two hit made-for-TV Japanese movies that spawned the big screen Ju-On.
American Hollywood immediately got jealous and decided to adapt the scary tale for their own audiences, although they did the remake with the film's original director, Takashi Shimizu. And so 2004's Sarah Michelle Gellar fright-fest The Grudge was born.
The flick was deemed worthy, and scary, enough for a sequel, and so Gellar came back for The Grudge 2 in 2006. The franchise fizzled a bit after that, according to Slash Film, and the third movie turned into a direct-to-video release.
At this point, there's no director, cast or even hard evidence of a script in the works, and Cinema Blend even notes that the newest installment may not be a reboot at all, and merely an eighth adventure for the hollow-eyed creeper.
