ShopHouse the Birth of a Billion-Dollar Baby?

Founder Steve Ells has built a multibillion-dollar Mexican food chain by providing fresh meals fast. Can he do it again, this time with Asian cuisine? Or is he a one-hit wonder?

D.C. -- A Fortune article called the upcoming opening of ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen in Washington D.C. near Dupont Circle maybe "the most anticipated restaurant launch in town." It goes on to quote Morgan Keegan managing director Bob Derrington, who said that some of his clients are asking "Is this the birth of a billion-dollar baby?"

Featuring Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian flavors in a "fast casual" setting, ShopHouse represents a "wholly owned experiment" for Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG), ranked 54 on Fortune's 2011 list of 100 fastest growing companies.

Chipotle founder and co-CEO Steve Ells hired pseudo-celebrity chefs Nate Appleman and Kyle Connaughton to help devise the restaurant's flavor profile.

The story also notes that some of Chipotle's store managers, who often begin in the service line, earn more than $100,000 a year including bonuses and stock options.
