Forced out of his comfort zone by a persistent challenger, Cruz showed his all-around game while successfully defending his UFC bantamweight title via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson, at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on Saturday night.
Johnson pushed the tempo and did everything he could to nullify Cruz’s unusual style which includes switching from orthodox to southpaw and back, constant movement, lightning-quick kicks and jabs. But Cruz displayed top-notch wrestling and grappling, dominating Johnson on the mat in a match that was more competitive than the judges’ scores of 50-45, 49-46 and 50-45 would indicate. Read more...
