Audrey Tautou thinks she has been more successful for shunning Hollywood.
The 34-year-old actress - best known for her work in 'Amelie' and 'Coco Before Chanel' - believes there is a greater choice of roles in her home country of France than there would have been if she had moved to mainstream US cinema.
She said: 'I think I have a lot of luck in French cinema, and they give me great female roles.
'I don't think I would get such a choice in Hollywood.'
The 'Beautiful Lies' actress admits one of the reasons why she chose not to work in Hollywood is that she doesn't want to be 'a star'.
She explained: 'It might seem paradoxical given my profession, but I'm not someone who likes the limelight.
'The power and popularity of American cinema lends itself to the star system.
'That is not something that corresponds to who I am and what I want to be.
'I'm not saying that if I had gone to Hollywood that being thrown into the star system would definitely have happened, but I don't feel comfortable about being the person that everyone is looking at.'
